Now more than ever it is important to be aware of the legislative issues which are being written and voted on by our local, state, and national legislatures; legislatures whom we elect. These people greatly impact the political climate for working families both here and around the world. The Citizenship and Legislative Committee, most often referred to as the Community Action Program (CAP), is the worksite political-legislative arm of the Local Union and the vital workplace political activator. GM Turns Their Back on American Workers!
On Tuesday, it was announced that GM plans to invest nearly $500 million in its Arizpe plant in northern Mexico! This will include a new line of engines as well as a new vehicle which has yet to be named.
The announcement made by Grace Lieblein, chief executive of GM de Mexico said that it would create 390 jobs in Ramos Arizpe. What about jobs in the United States!
The people of the United States of America have funded the bridge loan for General Motors return to profitability. American workers have taken pay cuts, benefit reductions and suffered with the downturn of the automotive industry in this country.
What thanks do we get from GM?
Lieblein also stated that GM has invested $4.1 billion in Mexico over the last five years.
The vehicle that will be built there according to reports will begin in the last quarter of 2011. GM plans it to “give long-term viability to this plant by gradually substituting some production volumes.”
Call your Representative today!!
Tell them to stand up for the American Worker and what General Motors is doing is wrong! America did not invest in GM so that they could build their products in Mexico!
This is a slap in the face to all Workers, Citizens and Congressional members!!
